An amended version of the American Health Care Act (AHCA) may be voted on by the U.S. House of Representatives soon. The bill continues to include changes to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, and the new amendments only make the bill more harmful to people with disabilities.
 
The amended AHCA:
1.      Changes Medicaid as we know it. Impose per capita caps and block grants to Medicaid, which force states to make decisions on who should be covered under state Medicaid programs, whether people have to wait for services, and what services and supports are included (more information on impacts for people with disabilities)
2.      Cuts Medicaid funding by 25% ($900 Billion) 
3.      Allows states to choose not to cover Essential Health Benefits, effectively ending pre-existing conditions protections
4.      Let’s states allow insurers to charge people higher premiums for health coverage based on their health which means insurers could once again discriminate based against people based on their medical history
